J.J. Spaun hit razor-thin fairways, weathered rain showers and overcame Oakmont Country Club's gauntlet of a golf course to win the first major title of his career Sunday at the 2025 U.S. Open.

The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont was none of that. J.J. Spaun won the tournament with a score of -1, but the better way to put it might be he survived the tournament. This was a down-in-the-mud fistfight, a battle against the elements, the course, the field and the self.

Spaun, 34, entered the week having never finished higher than 23rd at a major championship. The Los Angeles native prevailed despite posting a bogey on five of his first six holes Sunday at Oakmont Country Club. He birdied the last two holes to secure the win at 1 under par.
