Hurricane Flossie strengthened to a Category 2 cyclone Tuesday off the Pacific coast of Mexico and could become a major hurricane before weakening later this week, forecasters said.
Flossie is moving toward the west-northwest a about 9 mph. "Flossie is hanging off the western side of Mexico in a very favorable environment for intensification," DaSilva said.
Tropical Storm Barry is making landfall on Mexico's east coast. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Flossie formed off Mexico's southwest coast.
Flossie forms over weekend as active Pacific hurricane season continues. The storm probably won’t make landfall, but it could sideswipe western Mexico or brush the Baja Peninsula.
