Bay Area sanitation workers this week joined what a union leader called a nationwide garbage “war” between the Teamsters and Republic Services — which provides trash and recycling pickups for hundreds of thousands of residents around the U.S — over wages and working conditions.

Seattle residents are still getting their trash, recycling and compost picked up, despite a garbage strike affecting collection in other cities. Why it matters: Some Seattleites have received text messages telling them their pickup will be delayed — but that's not the case within the city limits.
