Nick Pivetta tossed seven shutout innings Wednesday and the San Diego Padres logged their MLB-high 13th shutout in a 1-0 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals.

Nick Pivetta shut down Washington through seven brilliant innings, including matching his season high with 10 strikeouts, and the San Diego Padres beat the Nationals 1-0 to take two of three.

Jeremiah Estrada, who seems to have bounced back from his recent struggles, pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout. Adrian Morejon got the save opportunity in the top of the ninth with Padres closer Robert Suarez serving the first of his two-game suspension, and faced the minimum three batters to earn his second save of the season.
