Hong Kong pro-democracy political party League of Social Democrats announced on Sunday it had disbanded due to immense political pressure, the latest casualty in a years-long crackdown that has already quieted much of the city’s once-vocal opposition.

Hong Kong's last active pro-democracy party, the League of Social Democrats (LSD), disbanded on June 29, 2025, due to immense political pressure and safety concerns. This marks a significant decline in Hong Kong's political landscape following Beijing's crackdown on dissent after the 2019 protests and the 2020 national security law.

The League of Social Democrats (LSD), the last remaining active pro-democracy party in China-ruled Hong Kong, has announced its disbandment due to “immense political pressure”.
