Canning suffered the ailment when, after surrendering a batted ball to Atlanta shortstop Nick Allen, he attempted to change directions on the mound so that he could back up third base. He subsequently went down before being aided off the field by the Mets training staff.

The Mets pitching rotation took another major hit after Griffin Canning ruptured his Achilles tendon. Canning will miss the rest of the season.

New York Mets pitcher Griffin Canning had surgery on Friday to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the season and possibly part of 2026. Canning was injured during Thursday night’s 4-0 win over Atlanta while coming off the mound to field a grounder.
